Thousands of bottles of Clear Eyes Maximum Itchy Eye Relief are being pulled from shelves across the country after a voluntary recall sparked by concerns over potential contamination. The FDA announced that approximately 39,060 half-ounce bottles distributed by Medtech Products, a subsidiary of New York-based Prestige Consumer Healthcare, may lack proper sterility. While these eye drops are available over the counter at various major retailers nationwide, officials clarified that only one specific batch is affected.
Consumers should check their medicine cabinets for bottles labeled Lot 2552A with an expiration date of September 30, 2027. This particular group falls under the FDA’s Class II designation, which suggests that using the product could lead to temporary or medically reversible health issues. Despite the warning, a spokesperson for Prestige Consumer Healthcare noted that no injuries have been reported so far and emphasized that actual contamination had not even been confirmed before they decided to act.
The company explained in an email that the decision to initiate the recall starting July 29 was made out of an abundance of caution to ensure consumer safety and maintain quality standards. Though many people rely on these drops for quick relief from allergies, those holding the affected lot are encouraged to stop using them immediately. For clarity regarding where the products were sold, it has been noted that while widely distributed, this specific recalled lot was not sold through CVS pharmacies.
